Guilford Opens ODAC Play With Win 78-65 at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Tobi Akinsola scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the second half of Guilford College's 78-65 men's basketball win at Bridgewater College Saturday in the Quakers' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener. The Quakers (5-2, 1-0 ODAC) won for the fifth time in six games.

Akinsola, a junior forward, scored six points during a decisive 14-0 Guilford (5-2, 1-0 ODAC) run in the second half that turned a two-point deficit into a 63-49 lead with 6:31 left in the game. The Quakers' Josh Pittman made two three-pointers during the spurt, his first at the 11:52 mark of the second half that gave Guilford the lead for good at 50-49.

Pittman, who also dished out a team-high four assists, scored 10 second-half points and joined teammates T.C. Anderson (11 points) and Travis Tracy (10 points) as double-figure scorers. Guilford shot a season-high 60 percent from the field in the game, led by Akinsola's seven-of-10 shooting effort. The Quakers also enjoyed a 35-19 rebounding advantage, which helped them overcome 21 turnovers that led to 31 Bridgewater points.

Cody Griffith stroked three three-pointers off the bench and scored a game-high 20 points for the Eagles (2-6, 0-2 ODAC). Rick Maloney chipped in 14 points and teammate Kyle Hammond added 12 points and three assists.
