Worcester, MA --- Matt Carr (Somersworth, NH) posted a career-high 16 points en route to registering his second career double-double and Jeffrey Robinson (Granby, CT) added 21 points as host WPI downed Lasell 89-63 in a non-conference men's contest Thursday night. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-1, while the Lasers dip to 0-5 on the year.

WPI never trailed in the game and used a 14-0 run in the first half to turn a 6-6 deadlock into a 20-6 advantage.  The Engineers held the Lasers scoreless for a stretch of 9:18, which was compounded as Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA), who scored Lasell's first eight points, was sent to the bench with three fouls with 8:30 left before intermission.  The visitors didn't receive a point from someone other than Williams until 5:15 remained in the opening half as it helped WPI to a 35-19 halftime lead.

Lasell was never able to slice the deficit to single digits over the final 20 minutes of play.

Carr added to his 16 point performance by gobbling up 10 rebounds for his first double-double since February 6, 2010 versus NEWMAC-foe Wheaton.   Robinson canned five 3-pointers, including 4-of-5 in the second half.  WPI got a spark from senior Ryan Stock (Grafton, MA), who off rattled five straight points early in the second stanza to thwart a Laser comeback.

David White (Worcester, MA) filled the stat sheets for the Engineers notching eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.  Jaime Shannon (Lowell, MA) and Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) each added seven points for the hosts, who enjoyed a 63-27 edge in shots in the paint and transformed a 45-23 advantage on the glass into 24 second chance points.

Williams led all players with 22 points for Lasell.  The junior, who was limited to 25 minutes, due to foul trouble, drained 12-of-13 free throws on the night.  Derrick Harper (Boston, MA)  chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Lasers while Robert Roy (Dover, NH) added nine and Sean Bertaza (Seymour, CT) eight points respectively.  Dominik Orlow (Slupsk, Poland) paced the visitors in the rebounding column with a team-best seven boards.

WPI is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Division I Harvard for a 7pm contest.  It will be the first time the Engineers have faced the Crimson since 1989 and their first matchup with a Division I opponent since a trip to Dartmouth in 2002.  Lasell returns to GNAC conference action on Saturday when they entertain defending champion Albertus Magnus at 3pm.
