Bobcats drop confernce opener 83-75 in overtime to Penn State Altoona

GREENSBURG, PA- Four Bobcats scored in double figures led by Josh Kucenic (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) who finished the night with 15 points but Pitt-Greensburg fell to Penn State Altoona 83-75 in overtime Wednesday evening in Chambers Hall.  UPG falls to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Damian Founds (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) scored 14 points and dished out six assists, while David Palmer (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Pitt-Greensburg opened the largest lead by either side at the 7:46 mark of the first half when Tiere Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) grabbed an offensive rebound and finished the lay-up.  Penn State Altoona used the remainder of the half to chip away at the UPG lead and took the lead 33-31 on two free throws by Lorenzo Carter with 15 seconds to go in the half.  Cameron Hubbard (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) connected on a last second 3-pointer to give the Bobcats a 34-33 lead at the intermission.

The second half featured nine lead changes and five different ties as neither squad was able to take a lead greater than five points.  The Lion's Kirk Peters gave PSA a 52-47 lead with 9:15 to go in regulation.

Larry Bigante (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) hit two free throws with 3:33 left to play to give Pitt-Greensburg a 63-60 advantage but Altoona's Jay D Adamsky tied the score back up with his first 3-pointer of the game.

After falling behind by a pair Josh Kucenic tied the game at 65-65 with 2:18 remaining in the game.  Regulation ended in a 65-65 tie as neither team was able to put points on the board over the final two minutes.

Penn State Altoona scored the first seven points of overtime to take a quick 72-65 lead but Pitt-Greensburg would cut the deficit to jus three with 54 seconds left on the clock when Hubbard hit his third 3-pointer of the contest.

Penn State Altoona was able to make enough foul shots and take advantage of Bobcat turnovers to eventually walk away with an 83-74 victory.

Altoona's Kirk Peters scored a game high 26 points while Jay D Adamsky pitched in with 19 points.

Pitt-Greensburg hosts defending AMCC champions Medaille College Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM in Chambers Hall.
