HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. (Dec. 1) -- Rust College (2-3) had four players in double-figures and scored over half its points in the paint to hand Hendrix College (2-3) a 82-69 setback on Tuesday evening. The Bearcats shot 50.8 percent from the field while the Warriors shot just 37.9 percent.

The two teams traded six lead changes and five ties in the first 10 minutes of action. Rust came away with the final advantage on a free throw from junior William Montgomery and would stay on top for the last 30:21.

Hendrix junior Chris Goodman and sophomore Jaren Riley combined for five 3-pointers in the opening 10 minutes, however, Rust junior Markeith Wilson answered with four long balls of his own in the last 10 minutes to lead the Bearcats to a 45-36 advantage at intermission.

Rust continued to pound it inside after the break and eventually led by a game-high 17 points (67-50) on a layup from junior Fabian McPherson with 10:52 left in regulation. Hendrix fought back over the next five minutes and a 14-2 run decreased its deficit to four points. The Bearcats held off the surge and outscored the Warriors 13-4 the rest of the way.

Goodman led Hendrix with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting from long range. Junior Ammon Martin added 17 points and a team-best six rebounds, while junior Nick Heathscott tallied 13 points. Riley finished with nine points and a team-high four assists.

The Warriors open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, Dec. 3 when Colorado College comes to town for a 8 p.m. CT affair at Grove Gymnasium. Hendrix will then host conference foe Austin College on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m.
