Stars Edge Cougars In Division Battle

In the final 35 seconds, Dominican trailed 62-61 after the Cougars' Jeff Weberg drained a jumper from ten feet. The Stars, with timeouts in hand, raced back up the floor and recaptured the lead on a lay in by Kaleb Watts (Munster, Ind.). On the Cougars' ensuing possession, Deontay Young elevated for a three-point attempt but Dominican's Marquis Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) got a hand on the ball and the rebound was tied up with possession going to the Stars. Dominican's Jovan Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was fouled immediately on the inbounds and connected on the back-end of a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining to preserve the win.
Dominican's Kevin Blackowicz (Mundelein, Ill.) came off the Stars' bench to lead all scorers with 17 points. Blackowicz went 6-for-9 from the field, connecting on five three-point attempts and knocking down an 18-foot jumper with under 7:30 to play to give the Stars a 53-52 advantage. Blackowicz is shooting near 49 percent from three on the season, connecting on 13 of his 27 attempts from long distance.
As a team, Dominican shot over 53 percent from the field (25-47) but managed to convert on just six of 15 trips to the free throw line. Marquis Turley chipped in 16 points in the winning effort while Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) added 10 points in 23 minutes of work.
For the Cougars, Weberg scored a team-high 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting while senior James Morgan scored 12 points, ten in the second half.
The win improves the Stars to 3-3 on the season while the Cougars drop to 4-2. The Stars return to action on Saturday, traveling to Sheboygan, Wis., to take on the Lakeland College Muskies. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
