Thomas Home Opener Spoiled by Bates, 85-64

The Thomas College Terriers men's basketball team played in their first home game of the 2010-2011 season with a 85-64 loss to Bates College (3-1) at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium this evening.

Bates would use their three-point shooting to their advantage in the first half shooting 7-16 (44%) while Thomas was only 2-12 (17%). The Bobcats would also out rebound the Terriers 30-12 to take a 48-27 lead into the locker room.

Mark Brust would lead the scoring in the first half with 13 points for the Bobcats while Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) led the Terriers at the half with 11 points.

In the second half, Thomas went on a 7-0 run to force a timeout by Bates. The Terriers had cut the lead to 13 but that would be as close as they would get. Thomas would shoot better in the second half including 6-11 (55%) on three-point shooting as they tried to narrow the Bobcats' lead.

Bates had four players in double figures for scoring including Brian Ellis grabbing 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double (13 points). The Bobcats had a well balanced attack in the game with 14 of their 17 players scoring. Thomas was led by Duncanson with 16 points and three assists.

The Terriers (0-3, 0-0 NAC) will play again tomorrow, Wednesday December 1, 2010 at 5:00pm against the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a regional matchup.
