CHICAGO -- Denison University's Mike Garabedian hit five free throws, including the deciding point, in the game's final 2:06 as the Big Red edged the University of Chicago 66-65 in non-conference men's basketball play Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

The loss marked the Maroons' (1-2) second one-point setback of the season's opening week following a 74-73 defeat at Dominican University on Monday night.

Chicago held a 62-56 advantage with five minutes left in the game. A Garabedian three-pointer and a pair of free throws from Larry Farmer drew the Big Red (2-2) to within a point, 62-61, at the 2:40 mark.

Garabedian converted three foul shots with 2:06 to play to put Denison on top for the first time in the second half, 64-62.

Tom Williams gave the Maroons their final lead of the day, 65-64, on a three-point shot with 1:48 to go, but Garabedian buried two free throws 26 seconds later for what proved to be the winning margin.

Chicago had a chance to win on its final possession, but a long three-point shot fell off the rim as time expired.

Farmer led all scorers with 29 points to go along with nine rebounds. Garabedian finished with 12 points, while Dimonde Hale contributed 10 points and nine boards.

Matt Johnson paced the Maroons with a season-high 14 points.
