ONEONTA, N.Y. – Breaking through for their first win of the season, the Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team defeated St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 89-63, in the consolation game of the Tom Greene Invitational at Hartwick College. The Knights are now 1-2 on the season.
Mount Saint Mary scored the opening nine points of the contest and then rolled out to a 29-9 advantage following a three-pointer by sophomore Lenny Ragaglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) at the 8:47 mark. Senior Tim Morris (Greenwich, N.Y.) hit a jumper just before the end of the half to send the Knights to the locker room with a 55-29 lead.
A three-pointer by freshman Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) with 8:14 to play propelled the Mount to a 34-point cushion, their largest of the evening. The Knights would eventually settle in for a 26-point win.
Pisciotta went on to lead the team with 18 points and connected on all four of his attempts from three. Junior Kevin Milella (Floral Park, N.Y.) tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, while Ragaglia also jumped into double figures with 11 points. Junior Carlos Valdez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) scored just seven points, but was a monster on the glass, pulling down a game-high 15 boards.
Valdez was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.
The Knights shot 45.7-percent from the field and connected 13 times from downtown (39.4-percent). St. Joseph's-Brooklyn shot 44.4-percent from the field, but just 2-of-13 from behind the arc.
Following the holiday break, Mount Saint Mary hits Skyline play with a road trip to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30.
