The Dominican University men's basketball team led from wire-to-wire, leading by as many as 18 points in the first half and cruising to a 79-62 win over the Blackburn College Beavers on the first day of the 2010 River Forest Classic.
The Stars were paced by Kevin Blackowicz's (Mundelein, Ill.) team-high 17 points off the bench. Blackowicz scored 14 points in just 11 minutes in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point distance and shooting at a perfect 2-for-2 clip from the free throw line. The Stars' junior guard added his fifth three of the game in the second half, going 5-for-9 from the field and 5-for-8 from three in 21 minutes of work.
Logan Harris (Pleasant Plaines, Ill.) and Marquis Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added 11 points apiece for Dominican while Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) rounded out four Stars in double-figures with 10 points of his own. Harris also added a game-high nine rebounds while Jovan Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored eight points, seven in the second half, and dished out six assists.
Blackburn's Dakota Tucker led all scorers with 23 points. Tucker went 8-for-12 from the field, including 5-for-9 from three, and grabbed a team-high eight boards. Blackburn's Madison Medley scored six points, grabbed seven boards and set a new River Forest Classic record with five blocked shots, eclipsing Mike Haiduc's mark of three blocked shots back in 2007.
Dominican improved to 2-0 on the season with the win while Blackburn fell to 0-1. Dominican matches up with the Coe College Kohawks in tomorrow's River Forest Classic action at Concordia Chicago while Blackburn will face the Concordia Chicago Cougars, who topped Coe 76-69 in the opening game of the Classic.
