GREENVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 20) -- Westminster College led the entire 40 minutes to earn a 63-53 win over Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon at H.J. Long Gymnasium. The Titans outscored the Warriors 28-18 in the paint and 15-10 on second-chance points.
After knocking down 15 3-pointers in their win over Greenville College on Friday night, Hendrix shot just 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from behind the arc and 34 percent from the field in its final game of the Greenville Tip-Off Classic.
Westminster jumped out to a 21-9 lead after the first 11:37 and eventually led by as much as 17 points (37-20) with 33 seconds left before the break. The Titans' largest margin was 18 points (41-23) with 16:30 left in regulation.
The Warriors eventually narrowed their deficit to five points (45-40) on a 3-pointer from senior Dane Nielsen (pictured) followed by a jumper from junior Scott Sherrill, both off assists from senior Ryan Rizos, with just over eight minutes to go. Unfortunately, that is as close as Hendrix would come, as Westminster answered with 9-3 run.
Hendrix did not have a player in double-digits as Nielsen and junior Nick Heathscott led the way with nine points apiece. Heathscott and first year John Zimmerman both added six rebounds and Rizos finished with a team-high four assists.
The Warriors fall to 1-2 overall and now travel to LeTourneau University on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. CT.
