FRANKLIN, Ind. - Five Thunder players scored in double-digits, but Franklin
rallied late to post a 89-86 overtime win over Trine Tuesday in the season
opener for both team.
With seconds remaining Neil Smith (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) connected
on a long in-bound pass to Scott Rogers (Waterford, Mich./Kettering) who
then weaved his way into the paint and tied the game 79-79 with a layup. The
host Grizzles pulled away in overtime at the free-throw line hitting six-of-eight
field goals.
Ian Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) scored 19 points to lead Trine. Scott Rogers (Waterford, Mich./Waterford) scored 16.Tim Pearcy (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) had 15 points with eight rebounds. Noah Veach (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven)and Brady Jordan (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) had 10 points apiece. Deon Thompson (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) dished out nine assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Trine shot 52 percent (33-of-63) from the field and 69 percent at the free-throw line (18-of-26). Franklin hit 50 percent (31-of-62) of its field goals and 78 percent at the line (21-27). The Grizzles also hit 8-18 three pointers.
