Ozarks spoils Hendrix season-opener for third-straight year

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. (Nov. 15) -- It was too little, too late for Hendrix College as the Warriors outscored University of the Ozarks 19-8 in the last four minutes and pulled to within two points on a 9-2 run with just 23 ticks left on the clock.  However, the Eagles knocked down four free throws in the final nine seconds to earn its third-straight season opening victory over Hendrix, 70-66, Monday night at the Mabee Gymnasium.

Ozarks commanded the game and led the entire way, eventually going up by as much as 15 points on two occasions.  The Eagles went into the locker room with a 34-19 advantage at the half and then stretched its lead to 62-47 with 4:42 left to play.

Hendrix turned the ball over 13 times and shot just 26.9 percent on 7-of-26 shooting in the first half, as opposed to just five turnovers and 51.6 percent on 16-of-31 shooting in the last 20 minutes.

Ozarks took advantage of the Warriors' mishaps by earning a 12-0 mark in points off turnovers in the first half.  The Eagles also outscored the Warriors 12-4 inside the paint in the opening period.

Hendrix was led by junior forward Nick Heathscott with 18 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Chris Goodman added 15 points to the mix.  Goodman was 5-of-6 from long range.  Junior guard Ammon Martin led the team with five assists and sophomore guard Jaren Riley was close behind with four assists.

Ozarks senior forward Andre Williams had a game-high 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field.  Sophomore guard Marcus Bobb scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting off the bench.

Hendrix will hit the road over the weekend as the team competes in the Greenville College Tip-Off Classic in Greenville, Ill.  The Warriors face the host school on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. CT and then take on Westminster College on Nov. 20 at 3 p.m.
