No. 2 R-MC Runs Past Marymount 89-46 in Season Opener

ASHLAND, VA – No. 2 Randolph-Macon got a career-high 26 points from Danny Jones as the Yellow Jackets topped Marymount 89-46 in the 2010-11 Men's Basketball opener for both teams.

Jones was 11-of-13 from the floor on the night, leading an R-MC club that shot 60.9% for the game, making 34-of-56 shots on the night, including 11-of-21 from three-point land.    Eric Pugh also had 13 points in the win for R-MC, while Brandon Braxton had 12.

Randolph-Macon made seven of their first nine shots, opening up a 17-4 advantage on a jumper by Braxton.  The Jackets continued to build on their lead, pulling ahead 36-15 on a Jordan Brown three pointer before heading to the locker room up 36-17 at the half.

R-MC put the game away with a 13-0 run to start the second half, capped by a Pugh three-pointer with just under 17 minutes to play in the game, making the score 51-19 in favor of the Jackets. 

Randolph-Macon would see its lead grow to as many as 49 during the second half as it secured its first victory of the season.

Marymount was led by Reed Scott who had 12 points of f the bench for MU.  The R-MC defense held the Saints to just 32.6% shooting on the night, allowing just 14 made shots on 43 attempts from the floor.    The Yellow Jackets forced 23 turnovers, including 16 steals.

R-MC will be back in action on Friday night when it travels to the Gettysburg Tournament, where it will face future ODAC foe Shenandoah at 8:00 p.m.
