Two sets of Eagles improved to 10-0 as No. 2 Emory topped UW-Oshkos and No. 15 UW-La Crosse held off Augustana. On the women's side, No. 7 Wartburg blitzed No. 14 Baldwin Wallance and Mass-Boston upset No. 12 Messiah.

Emory used an 14-2 run late in the second half to beat UW-Oshkosh 87-80, pushing the Eagles' mark to 10-0 and dropping the defending national champs to 5-5. UW-Oshkosh hung with Emory and briefly took a 70-69 lead on Jack Flynn's layup with 4:30 to play. The Eagles answered immediately with two Matt Davet free throws and that keyed the game-deciding run.

Romin Williams led the way for Emory with 24 points and eight rebounds, but he had plenty of help. The Eagles had a 53-37 rebounding advantage and shot 47 percent from the field (29-for-62) with all five starters scoring double figures. Lawrence Rowley notched a double-double (11 points, 16 rebounds) and Nick Stuck and Davet added 15 points apiece.

Adam Fravert had 30 points, eight rebounds and four steals for UW-Oshkosh, which finishes non-conference play against LaGrange tomorrow.

No. 10 UW-La Crosse built a 10-point lead over Augustana and then held on for a 64-62 win when Wyatt Cook blocked the Vikings' potential game-tying shot. After trailing 59-49 with 7:11 to play, Augustana had a chance tie the game in the closing seconds. Trailing 64-61, Jack Jelen split pair of free throws and the Eagles failed to rebound the ball cleanly off his missed shot. Augustana called time out to set up a final shot, La Crosse followed suit, and then Cook snuffed out the Vikings' final shot.

Terek Nesheim scored 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting for the Eagles (10-0) who shot 7 for 12 from three. UW-La Crosse starts WIAC play at Oshkosh next Saturday.

Ohio teams ruled the second day of the Great Lakes Invitational. Ben College scored 41 points for No. 14 Whitworth, but the rest of his team combined for the same amount and No. 24 Wooster defended its court in an 87-82 win over the Pirates. Keonn Scott tallied 29 points for the Fighting Scots (9-1) who have won six straight as they return to NCAC play. No. 6 Marietta bounced back from its first loss of the season and a slow first half with a 61-point second half in a 92-86 win over York (Pa.)

Buzz Anthony notched a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as No. 7 Randolph-Macon cruised past Lebanon Valley, 94-56. Randolph-Macon is 10-0 to start the season for the second year in a row. Concordia (Texas) pulled away from No. 23 Illinois Wesleyan in the second half for an 88-69 victory over the visiting Titans. Luis Gonzalez scored 27 points in 19 minutes, including an 11-for-12 showing from the foul line, as the Tornadoes outscored Illinois Wesleyan 46-28 in the second half.

Outside the Top 25, D'Vontay Friga came off Mount Union's bench to lead the Purple Raiders to a 78-65 win over Union in Daytona Beach. Friga finished with 21 points and seven boards in 23 minutes.

Women: Wartburg blasts Baldwin Wallace, Beacons outshine Falcons

No. 7 Wartburg opened its holiday tournament with an emphatic win over previously unbeaten and 14th-ranked Baldwin Wallace, 79-48. The Knights (10-1) jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back, holding the Yellow Jackets to as many field goals as turnovers (17). Emma Gerdes rolled up 18 points and eight rebounds for Wartburg, which plays No. 11 UW-La Crosse since the Eagles rode Emma Gamoke's 20-point game to victory over Washington U., 87-74.

Joie Grassi and a strong defensive performance led Mass-Boston to a 62-52 victory over No. 12 Messiah in Puerto Rico. Grassi had a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) and the Beacons held the Falcons to 26 percent shooting (14-for-54). Mass-Boston is 9-1 with its lone loss coming to Keene State, which is 2-8 entering the final day of the D3hoops.com Classic.

No. 1 Tufts looked much sharper in its second game back from the Christmas break, as the Jumbos rolled over TCNJ, 68-35.
