After Bryan Galuski left his positions as Greensboro College's Athletic Director and head men's basketball coach, the College promoted associate head coach Jim Cantamessa to lead the basketball program.
Galuski announced his departure in April to become the head men's basketball coach at his alma mater, Division II Eckerd College in Florida.
"Most people never get the chance to coach at their alma mater, so this is a very special opportunity for me," Galuski said in Greensboro's release. "But the players and their families, the coaches, and the co-workers I've met and worked with here at Greensboro College over the past 14 years have been special as well, and I will never forget them."
Galuski went 183-186 in 14 seasons with his best finish coming in his second year. The Pride went 20-7, 9-3 in the USA South Athletic Conference and lost to N.C. Wesleyan in the conference tournament. Greensboro went 3-22, 2-15 in conference last season.
On May 22 the College announced that Galuski's associate head coach Jim Cantamessa would be promoted into the head coaching role.
Dr. Robin Daniel, acting Director of Athletics, announced the hire.
"Jim is an unassuming and humble individual whose behind the scenes contributions to men's basketball and our athletics program did not go unnoticed," Daniel said in the release. "The Greensboro College campus community is fortunate to have him embrace a more prominent role in the coaching, teaching, and mentoring our student-athletes."
Cantamessa arrived in Greensboro in 2010, spent five seasons as Galuski's assistant and then was promoted to associate head coach in 2015. He is also the school's head men's golf coach.
Canatamessa played professionally in Europe and won a Belgian League national championship with Euphony Bree in 2005. He played collegiately at Division I Sienna.
