No. 11 St. Thomas showed its still the team to beat in the MIAC by beating No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus for the Tommies' 38th straight conference victory.

St. Thomas built a 12-point half-time lead, withstood Gustavus Adolphus' rally and then pulled away for a 74-66 win on the Gusties' court. The Tommies used a 27-6 second-quarter run to take a 39-27 halftime lead. Gustavus answered with a 12-0 run in the third quarter, spurred by Mikayla Miller's 10 points. But St. Thomas scored on its next five possessions, capped by Kaylie Brazil's three-pointer, and the Tommies led the rest of the way.
On offense Gustavus Adolphus (7-1, 3-1 MIAC) took care of the ball, only committing seven turnovers but the Tommies shot 58 percent from the field (25-for-43) including 41 percent from three (7-for-17). Lucia Renikoff led four players who scored double figures for St. Thomas (7-1, 3-0 MIAC). The teams will meet again at St. Thomas on Jan. 24. Box score
Elsewhere Bridgette Mann ripped off nine points in the closing minutes to lead No. 22 Scranton past York (Pa.), 67-63. Mann scored 19 points for the Lady Royals (6-1) while Katie McGowan scored 24 for the Spartans (6-3). UW-La Crosse held Marian to eight points in the first three quarters and rolled the Sabres, 64-14. Marian (2-7) committed 33 turnovers to just three assists.
On the men's side, York (Pa.) defeated No. 12 Swarthmore 83-79 to knock the Garnett from the ranks of the unbeaten. Swarthmore pulled within two at 73-71 with 2:20 left when York's Jared Wagner hit a back-breaking three to put the game away. Zach Yonda had 21 points for Swarthmore (8-1) and Dalton Myers scored 20 for the Spartans (8-0).
David Stokman scored 28 points and hit six 3-pointers in St. John's 77-74 home win over Hamline. The Johnnies (7-1, 4-0 MIAC) remained tied for first in the conference with Carlton which edged Augsburg, 66-64. Kevin Grow (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Kent Hanson (12 points, 11 rebounds) posted double-doubles for the Knights (6-1, 4-0 MIAC).
After starting the season 5-1 out of conference, Averett has had tougher sledding in conference play. The Cougars dropped their second straight game to a USA South Athletic Conference opponent, this time falling to Ferrum 100-96 in double-overtime.
Ferrum's Josh Grimmard made a three-pointer with 13 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. D'Andre Mullen scored two 3-pointers in the second extra period to push the Panthers to victory. Josh Dudley finished one assist short of a triple-double for Ferrum (2-4, 1-0 USAC) while James Contreras, Jr. scored 30 points for Averett (5-3, 0-1 USAC).
