Gorton out at Loras

Loras athletic director Denise Udelhofen announced on Tuesday, March 1 that head men's basketball coach Greg Gorton had been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

"We are grateful to Greg for his service and dedication to the men's basketball program over the past 13 years, both as a head coach and as an assistant," Udelhofen said.

Loras was 13-13 this past season, falling in the first round of the Iowa Conference tournament to Central, the eventual conference tournament champion. The Duhawks were .500 or better twice in the past three season.

Under Gorton's direction, Loras had a 53-74 record in the past five seasons, missing the Iowa Conference tournament on three occasions. In the other two seasons, the Duhawks failed to win its opening round games at home.

Associate head men's basketball coach and head men's gold coach Buddy Sodemann has been named interim head coach and will continue in that role until a new head coach has been named.
