It has been a rough week for men's teams in the Top 25, but Wooster and Virginia Wesleyan head into the next week on a high note. And Amherst may head into next week as the top team in the country.

No. 10 Wooster got back on the track by beating No. 18 DePauw, 76-63. The Scots never trailed and shot 51 percent from the field. Tommy Fernitz scored 18 points for the Tigers. Recap

Wooster snapped its two game losing streak and picked up its first win in Greencastle since DePauw joined the NCAC four years ago.

No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan opened ODAC play with a home loss on Wednesday night. On Saturday the Marlins returned the favor to Guilford. Virginia Wesleyan went to North Carolina and beat the Quakers, 84-66. The Marlins struggled from three again (4-for-17), but converted 18 of 22 free throw attempts.

Other ranked teams also returned to the win column. No. 5 St. Thomas defeated St. John's, No. 6 Emory handled La Verne and No. 1 Augustana pounded Fontbonne.

Last season Amherst picked up its first loss at Emerson. This season the Lord Jeffs were ready for the Lions and beat them handily, 80-59.

Other ranked teams also stayed perfect by smaller margins. No. 14 Ohio Wesleyan downed Denision 76-74, despite David Meurer having another big game for the Big Red (21 points, five assists). No. 8 Richard Stockton overcame William Paterson 53-45 in a defensive struggle. No. 9 Illiniois Wesleyan did the same at home against No. 17 Chicago, beating the Maroons 61-56 despite shooting 21 percent from three (5-for-24) and 37 percent overall.

Two traditionally strong programs stayed winless with last minute losses. No. 4 Washington U. rallied in the final minutes to beat Trinity (Texas), 79-77. Transylvania fell to Rose-Hulman 67-66 when Michael Hallstein caught an inbound lob pass and scored as time expired. Watch the buzzer beater in the highlight to the right.

Calvin was on the brink of a second loss in the CCIW-MIAA when Jordan Brink rescued them. The Knights' guard scored 26 points including the game-winning jumper with two seconds left to beat Carthage, 75-73.

No. 24 St. Norbert, which usually slows down Grinnell's scoring machine, did it again on Saturday. The Green Knights held the Pioneers 48 points below their scoring average in a 102-75 St. Norbert victory.

Texas-Dallas stifled No. 10 Texas-Tyler late and pulled away for a 55-47 win on the road.

The Comets and Patriots played each other evenly until midway through the second half. After Texas-Tyler's Madison Wilson made a three-pointer to pull the Patriots even at 40, Madi Hess responded with a three to put the Comets back in front. Texas-Dallas' defense took over from there, holding the Patriots to one field goal in the game's final eight minutes.

Hess scored 15 points for the Comets who improve to 5-1, 3-1 in conference. Brittany King scored 21 points for the Patriots, who will travel to Texas-Dallas on January 22.

WPI continued its surprising start with a 63-62 victory over Babson. Dani Davis made one of two free throws with 0.2 seconds left to give the Engineers their first win over the Beavers since 2009.

No. 19 Transylvania edged Rose-Hulman 53-51 to stay perfect. Bowdoin knocked off CBB rival Colby 56-48 to end the White Mules' undefeated start. Kelecia Harris scored a layup at the buzzer as Albright topped Lebanon Valley, 75-73.
