Several women's teams have flown south for the winter, or at least this weekend, to take part in holiday tournaments.
No. 5 Hope went to overtime in Orlando before pulling away from UW-La Crosse, 75-70. The Eagles hung tough against Hope in the second half, leading at various points and never trailing by more than five. After Megan Kelley converted two free throws to give the Flying Dutch a three-point lead with 12 seconds left, La Crosse's Rachel Atchison nailed a three to send the game to overtime. The Flying Dutch made seven of 10 free throw attempts in overtime to pull out the victory. Box score
Kelley led Hope with 25 points, including 10 from the free throw line. Atchison had 17 off the bench for the Eagles. Hope finishes the non-conference portion of its regular season against Division III opponents with an 8-0 record and 11-0 overall. The Flying Dutch play NAIA Rochester (Mich.) in late February.
William Smith went to Daytona Beach, but they didn't leave everything from Upstate New York behind. The Herons played Buffalo State on Friday and Potsdam State on Saturday. William Smith won both games, beating the Bears 91-66 today. Buffalo State rebounded from Friday's loss with a 64-58 win over Babson.
No. 13 Emory is already in the south but they had to travel almost 500 miles south to St. Petersburg, Florida where the Eagles defeated Randolph 66-42. Hannah Lilly had 17 points for the Eagles, who improved to 9-0.
La Verne outlasted Wartburg 87-80 in double overtime with three Leopards playing 44 minutes each. Lindsey Foster scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for La Verne.
