McMurry center Tarra Richardson and Washington U. forward Troy Ruths are the 2008 winners of the Jostens Trophy.

The award honors the top Division III men's and women's basketball player who also exemplify the Division III standard of the well-rounded student-athlete and personify the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. The winner is chosen from 10 finalists released at the end of February, which were chosen from dozens of nominees.

Ruths, a 1,500-point scorer for Washington University, has led the Bears to a 21-6 overall record and a berth in the Sweet 16 by averaging 19.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, including 49 points in the Bears' first two NCAA Tournament games. He also has a perfect 4.0 GPA as a computer science major and was last year's ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year.

Richardson, who recently surpassed 2,000 career points, 1,000 career rebounds and 300 career blocked shots, led McMurry to a 25-5 record. In addition to her 19.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, she has compiled a 3.91 GPA as a finance major at McMurry. She has also received the Abilene, Texas, Optimist Club's campus leadership award.

"This is the most exciting one for me because it does recognize more than basketball," Richardson said Tuesday of receiving the award. "Most people know me just for basketball but I liked this award because it shows that it is important to work hard in school and in the community."

The trophy will be presented to each at a ceremony in Salem, Va., on Thursday, March 20.
