The Middle Atlantic Conference has voted to offer Arcadia and Manhattanville membership in the Freedom Conference. The USA South is adding Meredith, increasing the number of participants in women's basketball to 10. The schools will be eligible for their conference basketball titles in 2007-08.
“Arcadia University is pleased to be a new member of the (MAC). Membership in the (MAC) allows us to expand our recruiting visibility to a broader geographic region as our student-athletes compete with others from institutions of high academic caliber,” says Arcadia president Jerry M. Greiner.
"We are very excited to be a part of the Freedom and Middle Atlantic Conferences," said Manhattanville athletic director Keith Levinthal. "Our goal is to put Manhattanville athletics in the best position to allow our student-athletes and fans to experience competition at the highest level. I believe we have done that by aligning ourselves with institutions with similar academic and athletic goals."
"The USA South Athletic Conference is pleased to welcome Meredith College into the Conference," stated commissioner Rita Wiggs. "We value the academic reputation and athletic profile that they represent. We look forward to working with all the constituencies of their college." The USAC had previously added Mary Baldwin as a ninth member in women's sports.
The Middle Atlantic Conference encompasses all the institutions in both the Freedom and Commonwealth. Arcadia joins Wilkes, King's, Scranton, DeSales, Delaware Valley and FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference for basketball. Drew is leaving the Freedom and Juniata, Moravian and Susquehanna are leaivng the Commonwealth after the 2006-07 season to join the Interstate 8. Lycoming moves from the Freedom to the Commonwealth.
