North Central upsets No. 1 IWU

North Central used a 20-4 run to end the first half and withstood a late comeback by No. 1 Illinois Wesleyan to upset the Titans 74-70.

Keelan Amelianovich had a three-point attempt to tie in the closing seconds but Anthony Simmons rebounded the miss and hit one of two free throws to ice the victory. Simmons led all scorers with 29 points and added 10 rebounds as the Cardinals improved to 10-0. They used just seven players. Adam Dauksas led the Titans (10-1) with 23 points and three assists.

"I thought defensively we did a really nice job ... we tried to do as well as we could on their two perimeter guys," North Central coach Todd Raridon told WONC radio after the game. "Their inside kids are big and strong but I thought our kids are big and strong."

On the women's side, nine first-place votes will likely be back in play, as No. 3 Washington U. lost on the road at 7-4 Maryville (Mo.). The Saints held Washington U. to a season-low 35.5% shooting.
