LAS VEGAS -- The 2018 D3hoops.com Classic got started with five games, including a record 3-point barrage from North Central's Matt Cappelletti and a late-game rally from the Ohio Northern women.

Cappelletti hit a D3hoops.com Classic record nine 3-pointers as the Cardinals rolled to a 93-51 win vs. Husson. North Central (11-1) scored 16 of the first 19 points and never looked back in the win, despite missing two players who were starters earlier in the month.
North Central connected on 16 of 37 3-point shots, one shy of the program's single-game record, including a 12-for-26 effort from beyond the arc in the first half as the contest was quickly put out of reach. Leading the way was Matt Cappelletti, who knocked down 9-of-11 triples en route to a career-high 35 points, while also grabbing a career-best 16 rebounds and tying a single-game school record with five steals.
Ohio Northern used a late 13-0 run to post a 65-57 women's basketball victory over Carthage. Northern trailed by as many as 10 points in the third quarter and were down 56-52 with 5:02 to play, but outscored CC 13-0 over the next 4:50 to rally for the victory.
"I'm very proud of the way we kept battling and fought through some poor shooting stretches during the game," ONU head coach Michele Durand said. "We went to a zone in the fourth quarter and got some stops and that was also a big key. The other big thing was getting to the foul line in the fourth quarter. Carthage is a very good team and this is a big win for us."
Emily Brock sparked a 13-0 run with a 3-pointer at the 3:36 mark, giving Northern its first lead of the second half at 57-56. It was one of Brock's four 3-pointers on the afternoon as she finished with 14 points off the bench. Abby Weeks led the Polar Bears with 15. Maggie Berigan scored a game-high 22 points for Carthage, but only one of those came in the fourth period.
Kassin Hopkins scored a career-high 21 points, while hitting four 3-pointers and converting nine of 12 free throws, to lead Willamette to a 70-66 victory over UW-Stevens Point in the first game of the D3hoops.com Classic. The game featured eight ties and 16 lead changes over the first three quarters of play. Willamette (4-6) moved in front for the final time late in the third period and kept the lead the rest of the way. A 3-pointer by Britanny Kochenderfer with 1:44 left in the third quarter gave the Bearcats a 45-42 advantage. Later, with only six seconds to go in the quarter, Elizabeth Logdsdon put through a layup to provide WU with a 49-44 lead entering the game's final 10 minutes.
Trailing by two points at the intermission, Linfield outscored Ohio Northern 44-24 in the second half on the way to a convincing 75-57 victory in Classic men's action. The Wildcats (8-2) hit seven 3-pointers in the second half, matching the best 10-game start in program history. Dempsey Roggenbuck scored 20 points in 22 minutes of action, Grant Gibb snared eight rebounds and hit a trio of 3-pointers in the second period to pace the Wildcats.
