LAS VEGAS – Senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) scored 23 points and junior Ashley Gehrin(Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) added 17 as 18th-ranked Gettysburg College took down Buena Vista University 78-60 at the D3hoops.com Classic.

Gettysburg (8-1) picked up its eighth-straight win by shooting nearly 48 percent (47.6) from the floor and out-rebounding Buena Vista (4-7) by 18 (48-30). The Bullets trailed in the opening quarter before out-scoring the Beavers 20-8 in the second period.

Dorshimer led the way by hitting 9-of-18 shots, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. The senior guard added six rebounds and three assists and moved into fifth on the program's all-time scoring list, passing former teammate Emily Gibbons '18. With 1,446 points, Dorshimer could speed into the top three with another strong outing as Susan Marshall '85 (1,457) and Ann Hymes '96 (1,462) are both within striking distance.

Gettysburg found itself shaking off some rust at the beginning of the game as Buena Vista jumped out the early lead and went ahead 16-9 on a three-pointer by Cassy Miller. The Bullets rattled off the next seven points before a Beaver bucket at the end of the period put the score at 18-16.

Back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Tori Yantsos (Rockville, Md./Holy Child) and Dorshimer kicked off a 10-0 run by the Orange and Blue to start the second quarter. Gettysburg built the advantage to 12 (36-24) on a jumper by sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) before settling at a 10-point margin (36-26) at the break.

The Bullets maintained a double-figure lead throughout the third quarter. A three-pointer by junior Kiera Cesareo(Randolph, N.J./Randolph) pushed the advantage to 45-30 with 5:03 to go in the frame. Gettysburg held Buena Vista without a point for over three minutes until a last-second putback by Jennifer Schneider pulled the Beavers within 10 (49-39) heading into the fourth quarter.

Buena Vista refused to back down in the final 10 minutes and used an 8-0 run to slice the deficit down to six (55-49) with 7:18 to play. The Bullets answered as freshman Mackenzie Tinner (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) converted an old-fashioned three-point play to open a 10-2 run. Dorshimer connected with Brown for a lay-up to finish out the spurt and put Gettysburg ahead 65-51 with just over five minutes remaining. Buena Vista would get no closer than 12 the rest of the way.
