The ninth edition of the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas will feature the women's basketball defending national champion, a 2018 men's basketball Final Four team, a team that reached the men's Sweet 16, four additional men's basketball NCAA Tournament teams from this past March, an additional women's NCAA Tournament team, a team that missed out despite winning 23 games ...
You get the picture. There's a ton to do in Las Vegas, and from Dec. 27-30, much of it will involve NCAA Division III basketball. Amherst could well be on a 73-game winning streak by the time the Mammoths thunder into Las Vegas for to take the floor for the third time at the D3hoops.com Classic. Ramapo, which went 0-2 in Vegas last year but recovered to reach the Division III national semifinals, will return to the D3hoops.com Classic for the eight time. UW-Platteville makes its second trip after its surprising 24-win season in 2017-18. Whitworth is back. So is North Central (Ill.). Johns Hopkins is making its first trip, as is Emory & Henry, and all four of those teams were in the NCAA Tournament this past March as well.
We'll have both teams from Ohio Northern, including the women, who were perhaps the first team left out after going 23-5. They'll face Carthage, a frequent NCAA Tournament team and a program appearing for the fourth time in Las Vegas.
All told, 18 teams will be joining the D3hoops.com crew and the folks from Sport Tours International, the tournament organizers, at the South Point hotel and casino in Vegas. We pair the teams up as best as we are allowed to do in order to bring you the most competitive games possible, although teams' travel schedules and, occasionally, the scheduling demands of coaches interfere.
