2009 Division III men's basketball tournament

Most Outstanding Player Sean Wallis

Washington University in St. Louis became the fourth team to win back-to-back NCAA Division III men's basketball titles as the Bears defeated Richard Stockton 61-52. The win marked the Bears' 13th consecutive NCAA tournament win and set a school single season record for victories (29).

Washington U. joins North Park (1978-80), UW-Platteville (1998-99) and UW-Stevens Point (2004-05) on the list of teams that won consecutive Division III men's basketball crowns. The Bears' run also includes a national third place finish in 2007, making this the best stretch in Washington U. men's basketball history.

Washington's Sean Wallis kept the Bears' offense humming all weekend as he notched 16 points and 10 assists against Richard Stockton on his way to being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The double-double was Wallis' eighth of the season. He also became the Bears' all-time assist leader with 566 for his career.

Fellow senior Tyler Nading led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Cameron Smith and Caleb Knepper chipped in eight points apiece with Smith adding eight boards (four offensive) and three steals.

Santini Lancioni led Richard Stockton with 19 points to go with four assists. Michael Farrow, who was named to the All-Tournament team, finished with nine points and seven rebounds, and Kai Massaquoi recorded eight points and four rebounds.
