    SALEM, MASS. – Jonathan Perez (Lowell, Mass.) scored 20 points, including 15 in the second half, as #4 Fitchburg State stunned top seed Salem State in overtime, 90-81 in the semifinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament on Thursday evening at Twohig Gymnasium. The Falcons (13-14) advance to play #2 Bridgewater State on Saturday for the MASCAC Championship. The Vikings (22-4), who had their 15-game winning streak snapped, are currently ranked #20 in the D3hoops.com latest poll, and will now await a possible at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

    SALEM, MASS. -- Alex Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) scored a season-high 26 points and Drew Healy (Lowell, Mass.) notched his 15th double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds as #25 Salem State defeated MCLA 91-81 in their regular season finale on Wednesday evening at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings, who entered this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, finished their conference season at 12-0, their first unbeaten MASCAC mark since 2007. Salem State improves to 23-3 and earned the top seed in next week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament. The Trailbazers go to 8-15 and 5-6 in the league, and have one conference game remaining.

    SALEM, MASS. -- Salem State won for the 10th straight time, as the Vikings easily dispatched Worcester State 98-56 on Saturday afternoon in a MASCAC matchup at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings, who are enjoying their best run since a 16-game winning streak in 2011, improve to 17-3 and remain unbeaten in conference at 7-0. The Lancers slip to 2-18 and 1-6 in the league.

    SALEM, MASS. – Salem State reached the 100-point plateau for the second time this season as the Vikings dispatched the Westfield State Owls 107-85 in a MASCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings were led by Shaquan Murray (Boston, Mass.) and Sean Bryan (Lowell, Mass.), who had 23 and 22 points respectively to lead five players in double-figures. Bryan also had a game-high 12 rebounds and five assists as Salem State had a season-high 21 assists while shooting 37-66 (56.1%) from the field, including 12-25 (48.0%) from behind the arc.
  • Vikings Late Surge Holds Off Bears

    SALEM, MASS. -- Shaquan Murray (Boston, Mass.) poured in 16 points and added seven rebounds and Alex Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) converted two free throws with six seconds left that gave Salem State a four-point lead as the Vikings held on for an 85-79 win over Bridgewater State in MASCAC action on Wednesday evening. The Vikings have now won seven games in a row and improve to 14-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference (4-0). The Bears slide to 9-7 and are 2-1 in league play.

    Salem, Mass. -- Marcus Faison's (Cambridge, MA) double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds and Shaquan Murray's (Boston, Mass.) career-high 31 points spearheaded Salem State's drive to the Vikings' 17th Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championship as Salem State stopped Worcester State 100-82 on Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium. Faison earned MASCAC Tournament MVP as the senior recorded his 16th double-double of the season to help Salem State earn their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2012.

    Salem, Mass. — Freshmen guard Sean Bryan's (Lowell, MA) three-pointer with five-seconds left completed a 17-point comeback as the Vikings of Salem State clipped the Bears of Bridgewater State 69-68 in the semifinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs Thursday night. The victory pushed the 2 seed Vikings into the championship game against the 5 Lancers of Worcester State, which upset top seed Fitchburg State on Thursday night. The championship will be played on Saturday Feb 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Twohig Gymnasium on the campus of Salem State.

    Salem, Mass. -- Seniors Nicholas Grassa (Lynn, MA) and Hamed Akanni (Fitchburg, MA) each tallied 13 points to lift the #4 seed Vikings of Salem State past the # 5 seed Trailblazers of MCLA 78-63 in the quarterfinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament on Tuesday night at Twohig Gymnasium. With the win, Salem State will move on to play the top seeded Owls of Westfield State in the MASCAC semi-finals on Thursday. Salem State improves to 14-12 while MCLA ends their season with a record of 8-18.

    Salem, Mass.-- Bryan Ortiz (Salem, MA) scored 17 points and Drew Healy (Lowell, MA) added a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds as Salem State used a second half surge to come-from-behind to defeat visiting MCLA 88-78 on Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings clinched the fourth seed and a home game in the upcoming Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, and will face a rematch with the No. 5 seeded Trailblazers on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Salem State improves to 13-13, and 5-7 in conference while MCLA slips to 8-17, and 5-7 in the MASCAC.

    Salem, Mass. -- Andre King (Springfield, MA) scored 23 points as the Owls of Westfield State sailed past the Vikings of Salem State 77-61 Wednesday Night at Twohig Gymnasium. The Owls improve to 15-6 on the season and increase their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) record to 8-1. The Vikings slide to an even 11-11 record with a 3-6 mark in the MASCAC. The Salem State Athletic Department hosted its annual "Think Pink Night" night, sponsored by Seaport Credit Union, during the college's men's and women's basketball games tonight. It was a highly successful event that raised awareness and collected funds for the continued research of breast cancer.

The Falcons improve their record to 13-7 this season and go to 5-3 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC). Salem State slips to 10-9 this season and 2-5 in conference play. The game was made up after Saturday's postponement due to court conditions.

The Bears improve to 5-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and 12-6 on the year. The Vikings slip to 2-3 in the MASCAC and 10-8 overall.

    Salem, Mass. -- Hamed Akanni (Fitchburg, MA), Bryan Ortiz (Salem, MA), and Nicholas Grassa (Lynn, MA) all scored 13 points as the Vikings of Salem State easily defeated their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent, the Rams of Framingham State University, 85-54 on Tuesday evening. Salem State tallied their 10th win of the season, against seven losses and sit with a 2-2 record in MASCAC play. The Rams slide to 5-11 on the year and drop to 0-5 in conference.

The Vikings improve to 7-5 this season while the Hawks move to 6-4 with the defeat.

    Salem, Mass. -- Daniel Wohl (La Canada, CA) netted 26 points as the Ephs of Williams College defeated the Vikings of Salem State University 84-77 on day two of the 2014 Salem State Holiday Classic. The win over Salem State allowed Williams to split the Holiday Classic and head home with a 1-1 record, improving to 8-3 on the season. This loss gives the Vikings their fifth loss of the year putting them at 6-5 on the season. Wohl and Bryan Ortiz (Salem, MA) were both selected Team MVP along with Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham's, Donte Ali (Willingboro, NJ) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Zach Karalis (North Andover, MA). The first game between Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham went to WPI who defeated the Devils 76-39.
