Yellowjackets Roll to 78-34 Victory over Keuka

The University of Rochester women's basketball opened the game with a 21-0 run and outscored Keuka College, 27-6 in the third to put away with Wolves for good on their way to a 78-34 victory on Tuesday evening inside the Louis Alexander Palestra.
 
Katie Titus got the scoring and run started for UR, with back-to-back buckets to open the first quarter. Titus' layup off Callie McCulley's assist broke the seal 11 seconds into the opening period, while her layup just under two minutes later got the Yellowjackets going.
 
Over the first 7:18 of play, Rochester held Keuka without a bucket and forced seven turnovers as the 'Jackets raced out to a 21-0 lead. 10 points from Titus keyed UR's run, while Hailey BruneauNora Fairbanks-LeeMaura Leverone and Alexis Sestric all knocked down shots as well.
 
Leverone's driving layup with 6:16 to play in the first gave UR its first double-digit lead of the night, 11-0, while Bruneau's layup off Titus' assist and Sestric's steal made it a 19-point Rochester lead with 4:03 to play in the first.
 
After a Keuka timeout, Fairbanks-Lee then capped off the run with a layup from Paige Gaynier, before Mary Cotter finally got the Wolves on the scoreboard with her layup with 2:17 remaining in the first.
 
Claire Groenewoud answered with a three on the other end to make it a 22-point UR lead, before the Wolves closed the first quarter with five straight, giving Rochester a 24-7 lead at the quarter break.
 
Sydney Brown then got the Wolves started in the second quarter with a three, before a nearly three-minute scoreless stretch saw neither team able to score.
 
Up 24-10, Titus broke the seal again with her triple with 6:26 to play in the first half, but the Wolves would outscore UR in the second, 13-10, to cut Rochester's lead down to 14, 34-20, at the half.
 
However, Rochester again got on a roll to start the third, holding Keuka to just two points over the first 5:58 of the frame, and six points overall in the period.
 
The Yellowjackets opened the quarter with a 19-2 run over the first six minutes of the period, with six points from Sestric keying UR's run. McCulley got the third-quarter scoring started with a layup before Bruneau's three and Sestric's layup from Bruneau made it a 41-20 Rochester lead.
 
The Wolves scored their first points of the third on Cotter's driving layup, but the 'Jackets held Keuka scoreless over the next 4:05, with four more points from Sestric helping bring UR's lead out to 23 with 3:43 left in the third.
 
Rochester then closed the third quarter on an 8-2 run, highlighted by two buckets from Fairbanks-Lee, to take a 61-26 lead after three.
 
And with the game in hand, Rochester kept things rolling in the fourth, holding Keuka to 20.0 percent shooting for the second-straight quarter while knocking down three triples and shooting 41.2 percent from the floor.
 
Gaynier sank a pair of three-pointers to bring UR's lead out to 39 with 7:25 to play before seven-straight from Carina Ciampi extended the Yellowjackets' lead to 76-32 with 4:26 remaining.
 
Raquel Williams then finished things off for Rochester, with her jumper giving the 'Jackets their largest lead of the game, 78-32, with 3:40 left before Keuka got on the scoreboard one more time before the final buzzer.
 
The Yellowjackets win their six-straight, moving to 6-0 to start the year with the win, while Keuka drops to 3-3 with the loss.
 
Eight 'Jackets scored six or more points, led by 21 from Titus, who shot 10-for-19 from the floor. Sestric added nine points, while Bruneau and Ciampi each tallied seven, and Fairbanks-Lee, Gaynier, Groenewoud and Leverone scored six points apiece.
 
McCulley led UR on the glass with seven rebounds, while Bruneau and McCulley each notched a team-high three blocks. Titus led UR defensively with five steals, as the Yellowjackets turned 21 Keuka turnovers into 24 points.
 
As a team, Rochester shot 44.9 percent from the field while holding the Wolves to just 21.7 percent shooting.
 
Rochester next hits the road for a non-conference contest against Hamilton College on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. in Clinton, NY.
