St. Thomas women hand Gustavus first loss of season

Senior guard Macy Hatlestad scored 16 points and the host Tommies closed the game on a 15-4 run to post a 77-64 win in MIAC women's basketball play Wednesday night at Schoenecker Arena.

Coach Ruth Sinn's Tommies (5-1 overall, 4-1 MIAC) handed the Gusties (5-1, 5-1) their first loss of the abbreviated 2020-21 season.

The game was the last time that St. Thomas is scheduled to play on its home floor as a member of NCAA Division III. St. Thomas is transitioning to Division I starting next season.

Junior Noelle Tomes had 13 points, senior Kaia Porter chipped in 11, and freshman Kate Burns added 10 points. Sophomore Jordyn Glynn contributed a career-best eight points, and Brynne Rolland added eight points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Katelyn Stanley had seven assists and scored all six of her points on a pair of treys in the closing 2:35 span.

St. Thomas shot 55 percent from the floor and outscored Gustavus 30-15 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Caitlin Rorman had 20 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead Gustavus.

The Tommies play Saturday at Bethel (2 p.m.).
