Veronica Ganzi Pours in Career-High 31 Pts, Bearcats Win Big in Battle of Lexington

Veronica Ganziscored a career-high 31 points and the Bearcats scored 17 of the first 19 points to record an 86-47 CUNYAC home in the 11th Annual Battle of Lexington on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.

Ganzi shot 12-for-15 overall, including a near perfect 7-for-8 from beyond the ARC, to power the Bearcats to their 12th straight win and undefeated 12-0 record in conference play. The team has also yet to lose a game in 2015.


Sheridan Taylorwas the other player in double-figure scoring with 10 points and nine rebounds. Alicea Ulmergrabbed a season-high 15 rebounds as the team dominated the battle of the boards, 61-38.

The visiting Lightning, who defeated the Bearcats last year in the Battle of Lexington, struggled shooting 22 percent (6-for-27), which included 2-for-25 from three.

Karrin Walker led the visitors with a double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots.

The women's basketball team will resume action on Sunday, February 8, with a 2:00 pm game at York College. The two teams were initially scheduled to play on Wednesday, January 28, but it was postponed by weather and travel concerns.
