Brooklyn Falls to Ramapo

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team suffered a 76-57 setback against the Roadrunners of Ramapo College in non-conference action earlier today at the West Quad Center. The Bulldogs drop to 6-3 overall on the season with the loss, and the Roadrunners improve to 6-2 overall on the year with the victory.

BC struggled to find its offensive groove in the first half, as Brooklyn shot just 20.0% (6-30) from the field, including going just 1-for-9 (11.1%) from three. The Bulldogs also struggled from the three throw line, converting 36.4% (4-11).

Ramapo opened the game on a 10-1 run through the first five minutes of the contest and would lead by as many as 17 going into the halftime break, 34-17. The Roadrunners shot 43.3%  (13-30) in the period, including going 2-for-6 (33.3%) from beyond the arc and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.

The second half featured a much different Brooklyn offense led by junior guard Charnelle Saint Laurent, who notched 12 second half points going 4-for-8 from three. As a team, the Bulldogs shot 45.7% (16-35) from the field and 35.3% (6-17) from beyond the arc. However, BC's struggle from the free throw line would continue, as the Brooklyn connected on just 2-of-10 (20.0) from the stripe.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Roadrunners continued to have a hot shooting hand, as Ramapo converting on 53.6% (15-28) of its shots in the second period, including going 3-for-7 (42.9%) from three and 9-for-14 (64.3%) from the line.

Brooklyn would be unable to recover from its first half scoring drought, as both teams played a fairly even second half, which saw the Roadrunners outscore BC 42-40 in the final period.

Saint Laurent finished the afternoon with a team-high 15 point doing all her damage from three going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, while seniors forward Justine O'Callahan and guard Lauren Plagainos each chipped in with 12 points. Freshman guard Nicole Francomano dished out a game-high 11 assists, to go along with seven points and six rebounds. Junior center Tiffany Thompson grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds on the day.

The Roadrunners were led by Kelly Haspel who led all scorers with 18 points, while Micaela Moore and Alexa Ryan each contributed with 10 points. Ryan also added a team-high nine rebounds, as Jackie Jerkovich dished out six assists.

For the game, Ramapo shot 48.3% (28-58) from the field, including 38.5% (5-13) from three, while shooting 75.0% (15-20) from the line. Brooklyn was held to just 33.8% (22-65) shooting from the field, including 26.9% (7-26) from three, while converting on just 28.6% (6-21) of its free throw attempts.

The Roadrunners also held the slim rebounding edge, 43-42.

Brooklyn will now head into their break for final exams and the holidays. The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday, December 30th, as BC will be on the road against New York University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
