Four in Double Figures in No. 4/4 William Paterson Women’s Basketball’s 91-82 Win

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Four Pioneers were in double figures in scoring to lead the No. 4/4 William Paterson women's basketball team (5-0) to a 91-82 victory at Baruch (3-2) Nov. 26.

 

Senior all-American forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) led WP with 26 points and 14 rebounds, senior all-American guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) contributed 19 tallies, and sophomore guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) posted 18 points.  Junior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) rounded out the group of double-digit scorers with 13 tallies, adding five assists, and sophomore forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) contributed eight points, five assists and five steals.

 

Eight straight WP points, including a basket and two free throws by Smith, turned a 71-63 lead into a 16-point advantage, its largest of the game, with 5:55 left (79-63).  The Pioneers maintained a double-digit lead for the next four minutes as William Paterson shot 46.9 (15-32) percent from the field following intermission.

 

WP built a 46-40 halftime lead behind 16 points from Smith and 14 from Lucas.  Ten of Smith's first-half tallies came from the charity stripe, as the Pioneers were 26-for-30 (.867) from the line overall.

 

Jessica Duleba led the Bearcats with 29 points, adding seven rebounds.  Folashade Akinde chipped in 17 tallies and eight rebounds, and Toni Fenn pulled down 14 rebounds.

 

William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Wednesday, Nov. 30, hosting Ramapo at 6:00 p.m.
