Baruch Lose Tough Battle to #4 William Paterson

The Baruch College Bearcats lost to #4-ranked William Paterson University, 91-82, in an exciting high-scoring contest on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The visiting Pioneers (5-0) shot 42.9 percent (30-70) from the field, including 46.9 percent (15-32) in the second half, to walk off with the victory between CUNYAC and NJAC opponents.

The Bearcats (3-2) shot 38.9 percent (28-72) overall and scored 25 points off of 17 turnovers by the Pioneers from Wayne, New Jersey.

The Bearcats, who were playing their second Top 10 team this week, led the contest early at 8-7, but the Pioneers took the 9-8 lead with their next possession and held on to the advantage the rest of the game despite several Baruch runs in the second half.


Jessica Dulebacontinues to shine for the Bearcats against strong competition by scoring a career-high 29 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Folashade Akindeovercame a slow start to total 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Kiara Johnson(11pts, 6 asst.) and Vikki DeTata(10 pts) also contributed with double-figure scoring. 

The Baruch bench was successful again today by out-scoring the Pioneers, 26-7. Rookie Toni Fenn came off the bench to grab a career-high 14 rebounds.

All-American candidate April Smith led four players in double-figure scoring for the Pioneers with a double-double of 26 points (12-15 FT) and 14 rebounds, while Brianna Lucas had 19 points (7-7 FT) and two steals. The Pioneers finished shooting 26-of-30 from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, December 1, as they begin the CUNYAC portion of their schedule with a 5:00 pm contest at CCNY.
