St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior guard Kerri Confrey (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) used her experience to guide The Catholic University of America women's basketball team to a down-to-the-wire 66-65 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Tuesday night.

First-year guard Leah Cranmer (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) completed a three-point play to give St. Mary's a 65-64 edge with 10.2 seconds on clock, setting up Confrey's heroics.  After receiving the inbound pass, Confrey brought the ball up, facing opposition every step of the way, before beating her defender and driving to the hoop for the eventual game-winning lay-up.  The ball swirled around the rim a couple of times before finally dropping through the net and stopping the clock at 1.1 seconds.

The Seahawks (3-3) called back-to-back timeouts to design the final play of the game but St. Mary's was unable to get off a solid shot before time expired.

Sophomore forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) nabbed game-high honors by leading the Seahawks with career-bests of 16 points and three steals.  Petrisko also added three rebounds and one block.  First-year center Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) finished in double digits as well with 14 while grabbing team-bests of eight boards and two blocks.

Catholic (3-1) owned a 37-30 halftime lead after breaking open a 16-15 Cardinal lead with a 12-2 run that gave them an 11-point lead at 5:11.  The run was bolstered by the sharpshooting of sophomore guards Jenny McGann (York, Pa./York Catholic) and Jill Woerner (Providence, R.I./St. Mary's Bayview), who each had a pair of three-pointers, to keep the lead in double digits with 3:21 remaining in the half.  Sophomore guard Pui Sham's (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) own three-point shot cut Catholic's lead to seven at intermission.

There were six tied scores in the second half as St. Mary's would not back down.  The Seahawks outscored the visitors, 16-11, in the first nine minutes for a 48-48 draw at 10:49. After that, the teams basically went back-and-forth with Catholic holding a 52-48 edge with 9:57 remaining.  St. Mary's claimed a 59-58 lead at 3:04 with Pruden's tip-in.

Cranmer kept her team in range as she had the team's final six points in the last 35 seconds, tying the game at 62-all with a three-pointer at 00:35 and getting the layup and extra point with 10.2 seconds.  She finished the game with eight points.

McGann and Woerner both finished with 16 points for the Cardinals while Woerner and sophomore forward Katarina Owunna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Alvernia) each had a game-best nine caroms.

St. Mary's will be on the road for the first time this season as they travel to Owings Mills on Saturday, December 4 to open up Capital Athletic Conference action with Stevenson University.  Tip-off is at 2:00 pm.
