In Division III basketball, "March Madness" starts in late February. There were 43 automatic qualifying bids to the 2017 Division III men's basketball tournament and 42 of them were awarded to conference tournament winners. The 43 AQs plus 21 at-large bids gave us a full 64-team bracket for the first time, unless you count those play-in games back in the day. We can finally say goodbye to first round byes.
