GETTYSBURG, Pa. – After trailing by as much as 19, Gettysburg pulled to within one in the final minute, but Swarthmore College made its final eight free throws and the Garnet hung on for a 70-63 victory over the Bullets in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon in Bream Gymnasium.

Gettysburg (2-6, 1-4 CC) received 12 points off the bench from both sophomore guard Sean Gordon and senior center Christian Bors. Junior guard Jay Kober scored 21 points for Swarthmore (2-6, 2-3 CC) while senior forward Will Gates added 18 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

The Bullets shot a season-best 48.2 percent from the field, including 56.3 percent in the second half. Swarthmore cashed in at the foul line, where it shot 23-for-28.

The Garnet led 54-35 with 9:53 remaining following a 3-pointer from Kober before the Bullets went to work on their comeback. A 10-3 run, fueled by a pair Gordon 3's, cut the deficit to 12 with 6:01 left on lay-up from freshman forward Kevin Gladstone.

Swarthmore led by 14 with 4:46 to go, but that's when Gettysburg reeled off a 15-1 run. A lay-up from Gordon drew the Bullets to within single digits (62-53) with 3:16 showing, and a 3-pointer from sophomore Joe Emerusabe made it 62-56 with 2:57 left.

A pair of Bors free throws cut it to 62-58 with 2:04 remaining, and another Emerusabe jumper made it a one-possession game (62-60) with 50 seconds left. Haverford then called timeout before freshman guard Sango Amolo sparked the Bullets with a pair of steals. His first theft led to a fast-break opportunity, but Haverford's Karl Barkley raced down the floor and blocked a Gordon lay-up attempt from behind.

Amolo came up with another steal on the ensuing possession and was fouled with 50 seconds left. He hit the first shot to make it 62-61 but missed the second. However, the Bullets regained possession when Gates lost control of the rebound under the basket. But on the inbound pass Gettysburg was whistled for an offensive foul, and junior guard Jordan Federer hit a pair of free throws with 47 seconds left to put the Garnet up 64-61.

Emerusabe missed a deep 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, and Gates would hit two from the line to give the Garnet a five-point advantage with 26 seconds to go. After a Gordon 3-ball was off the mark, Karl Barkley connected on a pair at the charity stripe with 10 seconds left, then hit two more with four ticks showing to set the final score after a late bucket from sophomore center Christian Healy.

Gettysburg led by as much as five (12-7) midway through the opening half and held a 21-19 advantage with 5:39 remaining following a Healy free throw. But Swarthmore ended the half on a 13-0 run to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room.

Bors made it a 10-point game (41-31) on a lay-up with 12:44 left before the Garnet used a 13-4 run to assume their 19-point advantage.

Gordon finished with a season-high five assists for the Bullets while Healy notched seven points and a career-high seven rebounds. Emerusabe and Amolo each scored nine points with Amolo adding four steals.
