Johns Hopkins Dominates Down Low, Tops Dickinson, 67-49

CARLISLE, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team was on the road to face off against Dickinson Thursday night, taking an early lead and never looking back en route to the 67-49 victory. With three games left in the regular season, the win guarantees the Blue Jays a first-round bye in the Centennial Conference tournament.

Four different players eclipsed the 10-point mark for Hopkins, paced by a team-best 19 from Greta Miller. Joining the junior in double figures were Michaela O'Neil (15), Jadyn Murray (14) and Macie Feldman (11). Miller secured her sixth double-double on the season adding a game-best 10 rebounds, while Feldman led the way in assists (7) and steals (5), both of which are new career-highs.

The difference in Thursday's game was the Blue Jays dominance in the paint, where they outscored the Red Devils 44-12, reaching double figures in every quarter. Hopkins' 44 points are tied for the most they have scored around the rim this season.

After both teams traded buckets to start the contest, a layup by Murray ignited an 8-0 run to give the Blue Jays (20-2, 16-1 Centennial) a 12-4 lead they would not give up. A free throw and jumper by Dickinson (16-6, 13-4 Centennial) stopped an over-five minute scoring drought before Murray and O'Neil combined for the last four points of the quarter to send Hopkins into the break up 16-7.

O'Neil's layup with 17 seconds left in the frame gave her 10 on the night, extending the junior's double-digit scoring streak to 10 games, the most since Diarra Oden in the 2019-20 season.

The junior stayed hot in the second, scoring the first bucket of the quarter to kickstart a 9-2 run to build the lead up to 25-9. Dickinson settled into their offense , responding with a 7-0 run to get it back to single digits, but it was Miller — who scored nine straight points in the quarter — quickly growing the lead back to 13. Points were difficult to come by in the final five minutes, with a Red Devil pull up cutting the lead to 11 at 34-23 at halftime.

The Blue Jays first five buckets of the third quarter came from all five of their starters, using a 12-4 run to race out to a 46-27 lead. It appeared as though Hopkins would take an 18-point lead into the fourth following a Feldman freebie, but a buzzer-beating heave by the Red Devils made it 51-36 with 10 minutes to go.

Layla Henderson — the only other Blue Jay to score in the game — got the fourth quarter started with a layup off one of Feldman's career-best five thefts. Dickinson got as close as 13 two minutes into the frame before a 7-0 burst capped off by a Feldman triple gave Hopkins its first 20-point lead of the night at 62-42. A layup from Miller built the lead to a game-high 21 with 20 seconds to go, but another Red Devils triple on the final possession of the game resulted in the comfortable 67-49 win.

The Blue Jays are back in action Saturday, Feb. 10 to face off against Bryn Mawr in their Fight For Literacy game, with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m. As part of the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, there will also be games, activities and an autograph session with Hopkins' female student-athletes prior to and after the game.
