Griffins Finish Conference Play With A Win At The Pacers

Scranton, Pa. - (2/14/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (9-15, 2-8) traveled to Marywood University (8-15, 2-8) playing their final Atlantic East Conference (AEC) opponent of the 2024 season. With the Pacers getting the better of the Griffins at the Griffin Complex 79-69 (Jan. 24, 2024), Gwynedd Mercy evened the series with Marywood as they won the contest 77-46. Once again not a single player on the opposing team could stop senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) as Eggers finished 12-of-25 (48%) from the floor with a game-high 28 points, five rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. Eggers got the ball rolling for the Griffins just 22 seconds into the contest giving the Griffins an early 2-0 lead and would not lose the lead for the rest of the game.

Griffin Highlights: 

  • Gwynedd Mercy came into the contest leading the AEC in rebounds per game averaging 44 rebounds. Tonight, the team finished with 54 rebounds and 18 of those being offensive. Senior forward Natalie O'Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior guard Ava Casale (Washington Township, N.J.) both were major contributors on the glass. The former finished with a game-high nine rebounds while the latter finished with eight. 
  • Casale had a strong game offensively as she finished 7-of-14 (50%) from the floor finishing with 19 points as well as three assists, a block, and a steal.
  • Senior forward Sydney Kesselman (Philadelphia, Pa.) played a significant role in the Pacers only being able to shoot 26% from the floor. Kesselman finished with a game-high four blocks and two steals as well as five rebounds and ten points.
  • Gwynedd Mercy finishes the season 2-8 as the number five seed in the AEC Tournament and will play the number four seed on Monday, February 19th, 2024, with a time to be determined. 

 Gwynedd Mercy University will play their final regular season contest of their 2023-24 season when they travel to Salisbury University on Friday, February 16th, for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
