Red and Gold Pick Up First Conference Victory Defeating Cyclones

Hackettstown, N.J. - (1/31/2024) - After losing nine straight games and six of those being Atlantic East Conference (AEC) matchups, Gwynedd Mercy University (8-13, 1-6) traveled to Centenary University (N.J.) (14-6, 3-3) and picked up their first conference victory of the season with a 66-64 victory. With 11 seconds left in the game and the score all knotted at 64-64, senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) drove baseline and finished off a strong layup giving the Griffins the game-winning bucket. Eggers finished with a team-high 23 points on 6-17 (35%) shooting, a game-high four assists, and six rebounds. 
 
Griffin Highlights:

  • Senior forward Sydney Kesselman (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a stellar performance as she finished 6-of-11 (55%) from the field with 12 points, nine rebounds, an assist, and a game-high three blocks. 
  • Gwynedd Mercy led the rebound category 53-42 with 18 of those rebounds being offensive leading to 18 second chance points. 
  • The Griffins' bench outscored the Cyclones' bench 16-9. Both freshman guard Angelina Balcer (Philadelphia, Pa.) and forward Azzy Crumpton (Conshohocken, Pa.) both finished with four points each. Balcer finished with two rebounds and two assists. 

 
Gwynedd Mercy takes a week off as they finish their road trip against Immaculata University on Wednesday, February 7th, for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
