Knudsen Sets School Scoring Record as Millikin Falls to Carroll

Millikin senior All-American Elyce Knudsen became the Big Blue's all-time leading scorer as the #16 ranked Millikin women's basketball team dropped a crucial College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) contest at Carroll University 80-75 on January 27 in Decatur, Illinois.

 

Knudsen entered the game with 2,008 career points needing 10 points to become Millikin's all-time leading scorer breaking the record of 2,017 held by Lindsay Ippel. Knudsen broke the record just before halftime and went on to score 38 points in the game. It was the 13th time in her career she has scored more than 30 points in a game. Knudsen now stands at 2,046 career points.

 

The loss broke Millikin's 21 game home winning streak that extended over two seasons. Millikin is now 16-4 overall and 8-3 in CCIW play. Carroll improves to 15-4, 8-2 and moves into a first place tie in the conference standings with Illinois Wesleyan pending the Titans game tonight at Augustana. Millikin is one game back in the standings.

 

Millikin lead after the first quarter 16-11 with the game tied at 29-29 at halftime. Millikin had a 51-49 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Pioneers got hot in the fourth quarter making 10-16 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range. The Pioneers converted on 9-10 from the free throw line. Millikin stayed close hitting on 11-16 from the field going 0-2 from the three-point range and 2-3 from the free throw line.

 

For the game Millikin shot 33-75 (44 percent) from the field and went just 2-17 from three-point range. Millikin was 7-9 from the line. Carroll made 26-60 (43 percent) from the field and went 4-11 from beyond the arc. The Pioneers had a major advantage at the free throw line making 24-27. Carroll out rebounded Millikin 43-31.

 

Sophie Darden had her 10th double double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Bailey Coffman had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Freshman Christina Rice had 10 points.

 

Olivia Rangel led Carroll with 30 points including going 13-14 from the free throw line. She had 14 points in the fourth quarter. Emilie Wizner added 25 points for Carroll.
