11th-Ranked Blue Jays Top Muhlenberg, 77-52

ALLENTOWN, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team started round two of Centennial Conference play with a rematch against Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon, completing the regular-season sweep of the Mules with a 77-52 win on the road. The victory ties Hopkins' program record for the best start to a season at 15-1, with its 11-0 start in Centennial Conference play sitting at the longest undefeated streak since the 1997-98 when they began 12-0.

The Blue Jays (15-1, 11-0 Centennial) used a balance attack in the win, with three players reaching double figures in Michaela O'Neil (18), Beth Corelli (14) and Jadyn Murray (12). Corelli was excellent off the bench in the win, with her 14 points and four made 3-pointers both serving as career-best marks for the sophomore. Elsewhere on the floor Greta Miller finished with a game-high 10 rebounds while Macie Feldman tied her career-high in assists with six to pair with eight points and nine boards in another all-around effort from the sophomore.

Murray got the scoring started in Saturday's contest with a baseline jumper but a 7-0 response by Muhlenberg (9-7, 4-7 Centennial) put Hopkins down five halfway through the opening quarter. Feldman answered back with a free throw and triple to cut it to one before the Blue Jays' bench came up big after Maya Johnson and Corelli made it a 9-0 run to take an 11-7 advantage. A layup by Feldman — who tallied six points, four rebounds and an assist in the first alone — with under a minute to go would send Hopkins into the first break up 15-11.

The second quarter belonged to O'Neil, who opened the scoring with a 3-pointer en route to sinking nine of her game-high 18 points in the frame. A pull-up jumper by the junior gave the Jays their first double-digit lead of the afternoon at 28-17, with the advantage growing to as much as 12 after another Corelli three before the sides traded buckets to put Hopkins in front 35-24 at halftime.

The Blue Jays came into the second half looking to take control, with the combined efforts of Layla Henderson and Murray doing just that. Murray opened the quarter with her first rejection of the night, and on the ensuing two possessions it was Henderson getting a pair of steals leading to four quick points. The duo was responsible for 10 of Hopkins first 15 points in the frame, with Henderson's third and fourth free throws making it a 20-point game at 52-32 with just over three minutes to go. The Jays built their lead to 26 after a baseline jumper from Johnson, but a pair of threes on the Mules' final two possessions sent the Blue Jays into the fourth up 58-38.

A 9-0 opening run to start the fourth laid any doubts to rest, with a triple from O'Neil and layup from Kara Milliken giving Hopkins its largest lead at 32 before the final buzzer sounded with the Blue Jays claiming the 77-52 victory.

Hopkins returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 23 to take on Haverford, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
