William Paterson Women's Basketball Drops Road Game at Kean

UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (5-12, 3-7 NJAC) fell 95-70 to Kean (11-6, 8-2 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game Jan. 17.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • William Paterson held a three-point lead (15-12) with 2:21 left in the first quarter after back-to-back baskets by sophomore Renee Wells.
  • Kean closed out the frame with six unanswered points to grab a three-point edge (18-15) before outscoring the Pioneers, 32-13, in the second quarter to extend the advantage to double figures (50-28).
  • The Cougars continued to build on their lead in the second half and went on to secure the 95-70 conference win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Brianna Smith scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-15 (.533) shooting with four rebounds and three steals.
  • Freshman Mattison Chiera logged a career-high 16 points and five assists with six rebounds.
  • Sophomore Patricia Walsh finished with 10 points and four boards.
  • Wells had nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
