Knights Heat Up in Second Half, but Drop Decision to Union, 64-48

Potsdam, NY – A slow start had the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team playing from behind early, as the Golden Knights suffered a 64-48 loss to Union College in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference games, while Union evened its mark at 4-10 and 4-4 in league contests. Clarkson is back at home next weekend when the team hosts RIT and William Smith.

Both teams struggled with ball control and shooting in general in the first quarter as each posted just eight points in the first 10 minutes of the contest. The start of the second swung things in favor of Union, with the Garnet Chargers scoring 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Clarkson was only 1-for-10 in each of the first two quarters, and trailed by 17 at the break.

The lid finally loosened for Clarkson in the third. Elizabeth Aiossa converted from the right side on a layup and Cassidy Dumont followed with a 3-pointer to close the gap to 14 (34-20). Later in the third, the Knights whittled the margin down to double figures when Raelin Burns buried a jumper, putting the tally at 41-32 with less than three minutes to go. That gap remained when Addie Kea hit a 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds of the quarter.

In the fourth, two free throws allowed Clarkson to get all the way back to within eight, but Union's Kennedy Clark hit a 3-pointer with 7:57 remaining to put the visitors back up by double figures. It would stay that way for the rest of the game, as Union came away with a 16-point win.

Cassidy Dumont scored 13 and Raelin Burns added 13 points to lead the Golden Knights. For Union, Jelena Perovic had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Jenna Forman was just short of a double-double, scoring 15 to go along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
