Women’s Basketball Cruises to win over Vikings

The #18 ranked basketball team won its 20th straight home game downing the North Park Vikings 100-62 on January 13 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  Millikin improves to 13-3 over all 5-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). North Park falls to 3-13, 0-7.

 

Despite the cold winter weather outside, the Millikin women came out on fire making 17-22 (77 percent) from the field in the first quarter including going 4-6 from three-point range. The Big Blue lead 38-15 at the end of the first quarter and rolled to a 61-28 advantage at halftime.

 

For the game, Millikin shot 60 percent (40-67) from the field making 6-15 (40 percent) from three-point range. North Park was held to 37.5 percent (21-56) from the field and 2-13 from beyond the arc.

 

Senior Elyce Knudsen led Millikin with 30 points and six assists. Sophie Darden scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman Diavian Mehundrew added 11 points. Christina Rice added nine.

 

Victoria Perry led North Park with 28 points and six rebounds.

 

Up next for Millikin is a trip to Illinois Wesleyan to battle the first place Titans (14-2, 7-0) on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 p.m.
