Keuka College Women’s Basketball Downed by St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost at St. John Fisher University 87-41 in an Empire 8 game on Tuesday night.

Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) led Keuka College (1-11, 0-4 Empire 8) with 14 points in the loss.

The Cardinals jumped out to a fast lead, scoring the first 17 points of the game. Bri Galan (Washington Heights, N.Y. / Washington Heights) got the Wolves on the board with four minutes remaining, but it would be Keuka's only points of the quarter as they trailed 27-2 after one.

Keuka College came out firing from deep in the second. Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) set up Sydney Brown from three on the opening possession and then Brown returned the favor a minute later, setting up Cotter for a three. Brown later hit another three as the Wolves went 3-4 from deep in the second, but St. John Fisher remained ahead 46-13 at the half.

The Wolves' defense stepped up in the third, holding the Cardinals to just 26% shooting from the floor and 17% from three. Despite limiting the hosts to 13 points in the frame, St. John Fisher carried a 59-22 lead into the final quarter.

Keuka had their best quarter in the final frame. After scoring 22 points through the first 30 minutes, they totaled 19 in the final 10 with a bulk of their damage coming from the paint or free throw line. However, St. John Fisher also had their highest-scoring quarter of the game, netting 28 points, as the Cardinals defeated the Wolves on Tuesday.

  • Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) led the Wolves with seven rebounds on Tuesday. It was the third straight game she led the Wolves in rebounding and the third straight time she did so with seven boards
