Dumont Scores 18 in Loss at Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY – Although the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team was below its season average in turnovers, Vassar College took advantage of the Golden Knights mistakes to the tune of 21 points off turnovers en route to a 70-42 victory in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the Liberty League while Vassar moved to 11-1 and 5-0. Clarkson now starts a long run of home games, playing seven straight in January beginning next weekend when the team hosts Ithaca College and Union College.

The Knights opened the game strong with a 9-1 lead, capped off by a Cassidy Dumont 3-pointer at 6:29 in the first quarter. Vassar finally took the lid off the basket with a Tova Gelb layup at 4:06, sparking what turned into a 19-1 run over a stretch of seven minutes from the end of the first quarter to the start of the second. Clarkson would get back to within seven on an Elizabeth Aiossa layup at 3:20, but the Brewers scored the last four points of the half to push the margin to 11 at the break.

Over the course of the third and fourth quarters, Vassar steadily increased its lead, pushing the gap to 20 points on a Caroline Siekman layup at 3:37 and eventually reaching to an advantage in the 30s before Clarkson trimmed it to the final.

Clarkson struggled from the 3-point line, going 2-for-18, while inside the arc the team was close to 50% (13-for-29). The Brewers forced Clarkson into 14 turnovers and truly changed the outcome of the game in that respect, scoring 21 points against the Knights' four points off Vassar turnovers.

Cassidy Dumont led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor and 2-for-4 from beyond the 3-point arc. Raelin Burns also scored in double figures, netting 12 points for the Knights.

Julia Harvey and Caroline Siekman each scored 16 points to lead the Brewers, with Siekman doing so on 8-for-14 shooting in just 19 minutes off the bench. Tova Gelb was close to a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
