Keuka College Women’s Basketball Falls to Hartwick to Open 2024

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost their first game in 2024 as the Wolves fell to Hartwick College 76-44 at home in an Empire 8 game on Friday night.

Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) led Keuka College (1-9, 0-2 Empire 8) with 11 points. Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) and Isabella Colon (Pine Bush, N.Y. / Pine Bush) each added seven off the bench.

Hartwick College 76 at Keuka College 44

Maddie Kramer (Ringtown, Pa. / Nativity BVM) got the Wolves on the board with a basket three minutes into the game, but the visiting Hawks would push a 16-2 lead over the Wolves. Keuka College quickly got back into the game with back-to-back fastbreak threes by Mary Cotter followed a Janea Hamilton-Brown basket. The eight-point run for the Wolves cut it to 16-10. Hartwick added a basket in the final seconds to lead by eight after one.

Hartwick College scored the first eight of the second quarter to extend their lead. Mary Cotter hit another three to end the run, but Hartwick would outscore Keuka 23-7 in the frame to lead 41-17 at the half.  

Despite Hartwick opening the third with a 9-0 run, Keuka College played their best quarter of the game. The Wolves outscored the Hawks 11-4 over the final five minutes of the frame until Hartwick had a basket at the buzzer to lead 60-32.

The Hawks closed it out in the fourth. Keuka got three-pointers from Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) and Janea Hamilton-Brown, but Hartwick won the fourth 16-12 to secure the conference victory.
