Women's Basketball Finalizes 2023 with Win over Guilford

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Women's Basketball took on a tough Guilford squad (8-3 overall) in their final game of 2023 that resulted in a win, 63-53.

Kenadie Lee and Sylvia Kahoro combined for 29-points for the Vikings that lifted their team over Guilford while Elly Callihan stopped just short of a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

After an 18-8 first quarter, the Vikings were cruising smoothly in line to a home victory. Opening with a 7-1 run in two minutes, Berry asserted themselves against the dominant Quakers. Guilford responded with a run of their own that gained them an 8-7 lead after a made three, but that would be the final points they would see in the first quarter as Berry ran off with an 11-0 run in five minutes.

Kahoro's three pushed the lead to 11 to start the second period, but the Quakers refused to go away and cut the lead to three with almost four minutes before halftime (24-21).

The Vikings did not let them get any closer and closed out the first half up by seven, 32-25.

The second half consisted of a lot of back-and-forth baskets between the teams as Guilford looked to snag a road win over the Vikings.

Berry's defense tortured the Quakers and caused 27 turnovers to limit their opportunities and hold their lead for the remainder of the game as they ended 2023 in The Cage with a huge win.
