Dumont in Double Figures for Seventh Straight Game, Knights Fall at RPI

Troy, NY – Junior Cassidy Dumont led the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team in scoring for the third straight game by tossing in 15 points, but the Golden Knights dropped their second straight Liberty League decision, falling 72-40 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference games, while RPI evened its mark at 4-4 and 1-1. Clarkson will take on St. Lawrence University on Wednesday, closing out its schedule before the school's first semester finals.

Although it took some time to get the first shot to go down in the first quarter, the Knights' offense was improved from Saturday, though Clarkson was once again facing one of the top defenses in the conference. Clarkson trailed by 15 in the first period, but back-to-back 3-pointers from first-year collegians Addie Kea and Emma Chambers cut the margin to seven through 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, RPI pushed its lead to 18 points near the midway point of the period following a layup from Julia Rowe, but the Knights lowered the deficit to the low teens after consecutive makes from Raelin Burns and Cassidy Dumont. A 3-pointer in the last minute by Ahnalese Pearson allowed RPI to expand its lead back to 17 at the half.

Out of the break, the margin hovered in the high teens for most of the third quarter. A 7-0 run, including a put back by Tyler Hormazabal at the buzzer built the lead to 26 for the Engineers, and the home team kept Clarkson's offense relatively quiet in the fourth.

Dumont finished with 15 points and four steals in the game, while Addie Kea chipped in nine points. Raelin Burns also had eight points, and Bella Doyle contributed nine rebounds.

For RPI, Nicole DaPra continued to be a tough player to stop for the Knights, as she finished with 24 points on 10-for-12 shooting, while also adding in eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Siena Smith scored 12 points while also snagging six rebounds and blocking three shots.
