Millikin Women Roll in CCIW Opener

The Millikin women's basketball team opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) in impressive fashion defeating Augustana College 85-48 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on November 29.

 

Millikin started the game strong making 10-15 (67 percent) from the field and going 4-5 from three-point range to build a 25-11 advantage at halftime.  Millikin only managed to make 33 percent (7-21) from the field in the second quarter, but outscored the Vikings by two. The Big Blue lead 46-30 at halftime.

 

Millikin blew open the game in the third quarter outscoring the Vikings 30-6. Millikin shot 53 percent from the field while holding the Vikings to 1-7 from the field.

 

On the game Millikin went 32-72 (44 percent) from the field and made 14-27 (52 percent) from beyond the arc. Augustana was held to 16-49 (33 percent) from the field and went 0-15 from three-point range. Millikin forced the Vikings to commit 30 turnovers. The Big Blue won the rebounding battle 39-32.

 

Elyce Knudsen led Millikin with 36 points going 14-18 from the field including 6-9 from three-point range. Knudsen added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Bailey Coffman scored 14 points making 4-6 from three-point range. Sophie Darden had her fourth double double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Emily Brenneisen had seven points and five rebounds.

 

Augustana's top scorer was Macy Beinborn with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kadence Tatum had nine points and four assists.

 

Millikin is now 7-0, 1-1 while Augustana goes to 3-4, 0-1.
